Committee Main Goal: The Parent Outreach Committee hopes to provide resources and support for Stevenson parents to better educate themselves and their students on teen substance abuse.
This committee is focused on creating awareness targeted towards parents about how their attitudes and their behaviors can impact the lifestyles of their children and we will be doing a lot of work with meeting with parents, middle schools, and other organizations that can help send the message about the importance of parents in the characters of their children.
Our committee has collaborated with the Stevenson health class department to develop an informational flyer and discussion activity for parents. In addition, we recently worked with SHS Outreach to put up "Too Smart To Start: I Support Drug-Free Stevenson Students" campaign decals in local community businesses.
Last year, Stand Strong Coalition hosted, "Not my Kid?!" This event answered popular questions from Stevenson parents in regards to their son/daughter’s potential exposure to drugs and alcohol in high school. A panel of professionals, including an officer from the Lincolnshire police department, Principal Gobble, and Dr. Cristina Cortesi, gave responses to the questions.
